The Louisville Courier Journal reports the sad news that Miguel de la Torre Ladrón de Guevara, former chef and owner of De la Torre’s Restaurant and La Bodega tapas bar, died on May 25th following a short illness.

De la Torre’s (founded in 1988) and La Bodega (circa 2004) were delicious fixtures in the Highlands for a quarter-century. Both closed in 2014. They were refuges for those who’d been to Spain and acquired a taste for the cuisine.

Here’s an excerpt from the CJ obituary. Our thoughts are with the family.

Born in Madrid, Spain on November 20, 1954, Miguel enjoyed a successful career in banking prior to moving to Louisville in 1987 with his wife Maggie. They established De la Torre’s Restaurant where he applied his self-taught culinary skills originally realized during his time in the military in Valencia, Spain … his rustic yet innovative cooking inspired a generation of Louisville chefs and customers alike.
