As reported earlier in the week at the Louisville Restaurants Forum, as well as a private Facebook group for food service employees, Z’s Oyster Bar & Steakhouse (101 Whittington Parkway) closed after Saturday service on February 1.
Food & Dining Magazine’s Jon Larmee reports that the entire block recently was sold, after which the status of the Z’s lease became contentious. Notes Larmee, the property has been listed for sale since January 13.
The past two years have been tumultuous for Z’s Oyster Bar and Steakhouse. In the spring of 2017, the restaurant’s downtown location at 115 S. Fourth Street closed. As our Ron Mikulak explained at F&D at the time:
(It’s) another casualty of the construction turmoil that has resulted from the renovation of the Kentucky International Convention Center. Disruption of traffic patterns as a result of the closing of Third and Fourth Streets, and the reluctance of pedestrians to venture into the construction zone has reduced patronage enough that the downtown location decided to close at least temporarily.
The Fourth Street location has not reopened since.
