Taco joints are springing up all over. We reported last week on the opening of Mexa Taco in St. Matthews. Across the river, New Albany taco fans have been used to seeing Steve Powell serving up his tacos from a mobile cart here and there around town. He is now ensconced in a non-mobile space, the kitchen behind Destination Booksellers, 604 E. Spring St.
Having a permanent kitchen has allowed Powell to expand his offerings. He now makes pork verde, chipotle chicken and chorizo tacos, and has added burritos, quesadillas, and fresh-made guacamole. He tried chicken wings for a while, but has discontinued that item. His burritos have been a big seller, though.
Taco Steve’s lunch hours are Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.He serves dinner, too, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday hours are noon-9 p.m. Called (812) 670-6463.
