It’s a bittersweet month for Louisville bakeries. Flour De Lis Bakery and Cake Flour Bakery will close December 23, 2017.
Flour De Lis Bakery
Flour De Lis Bakery has been the life long dream of owner Jessica Roberts Ridley and was opened with business partner and mother Juli Roberts, so it was with “sadness and anticipation” that she announced in a Facebook post Thursday that the bakery will be closing on December 23, 2017. Roberts Ridley will be moving to Baltimore with her husband to start a new journey.
The bakery has been at 1759 Bardstown Road for two years, although Louisville Insider reports that the mother-daughter partnership had already built a following through farmers markets and other outlets.
Roberts Ridley expressed her gratitude for all of the love and support they have received before inviting everyone to “…come see us one last time for coffee and a treat” during their usual business hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays (until they close December 23).
Louisville Cake Flour Bakery Closes
Strangely enough, Cake Flour Bakery, which also serves lunch, at 2420 Lime Kiln Lane will also close on December 23. The bakery has been Louisville’s only all natural bakery for a decade, which means they do not use artificial flavorings or ingredients.
According to their web site, owner Claudia DeLatoree graduated from French Culinary Institute in New York and then moved to Louisville “with the dream of opening a bakery that used quality, natural ingredients to make delicious goods from scratch.”
“I love what I do, but I really want to spend more time with my family,” said DeLatoree. “They’re getting older, one in high school and one in middle school, and I’m missing out on all the fun stuff. I’ll still be taking custom orders, and that [decreased responsibility] should let me still enjoy the good stuff with them.”
DeLatoree wants to spend more time with her family but will still take custom orders in the New Year. After January 1, 2018, customers will need to call 502-425-0130 or email orderit@cakeflourbakery.com to place their special orders.
According to the web site, the bakery will maintain regular hours until they close. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can view their holiday menu here.
