In a dense cross-pollination of drinking-derived conceptualization, the Nashville TN-based Red Pebble Hospitality group has rebranded its Gertie’s Whiskey Bar space at the NuLu Marketplace in Louisville (Gertie’s Sports Bar Next Door remains as it is, apart from these changes).
The existing whiskey bar has added a “speakeasy” downstairs as well as a front room retail area, all of which now will be known as Gertie’s Bootleggers Whiskey Hall.
Michael L. Jones goes suitably deep into the story at Louisville Business First: Gertie’s Whiskey Bar adds new speakeasy to its NuLu Marketplace location.
A NuLu whiskey bar has expanded to include a new downstairs speakeasy offering classic cocktails, small plates, desserts and jazz. The Bootleggers Whiskey Hall is located at 821 E. Market St. underneath Gertie’s Whiskey Bar in the NuLu Marketplace.
David Rehrmann, the managing partner of The 404 Kitchen in Nashville, Tennessee, said the whole space is being rebranded as Gertie’s Bootleggers Whiskey Hall. The front room of Gertie’s will be a retail space offering memorabilia and wholesale liquor.
“The Bootleggers Whiskey Hall is the speakeasy concept and the main Gertie’s bar upstairs and the tasting and merchandise room when you first come in, that room will be where people can taste our single barrels. We have a large selection of single barrels that we buy direct from the makers.”
In closing, at Wikipedia, we learn the origin of the word “speakeasy.”
A speakeasy, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, is an illicit establishment that sells alcoholic beverages, or a retro style bar that replicates aspects of historical speakeasies.
