APRON Inc. Responds to Back-to-Back Flood Crises: Emergency Support Needed for Independent Restaurant Workers

Louisville, KY — Louisville’s independent restaurant workers are facing an unprecedented crisis after two major flooding events since February. With many restaurants closed indefinitely and Thunder Over Louisville canceled this weekend—one of the busiest days of the year—the situation has only worsened.

APRON Inc. is calling for the community’s help. “Dozens of workers from several riverfront restaurant has already reached out, and we expect the number to grow exponentially as other employees become aware that APRON Inc. exists to help,” said Dawn Bianconcini, Chair of the APRON Inc. Grants Committee. “These workers, who’ve always been there for us, now need our support to get by.”

With restaurant owners facing massive repair bills, many don’t have the resources to support their staff during this tough time. APRON’s emergency grant fund is stepping in, but the demand is urgent.

Donations to APRON’s fund will go directly to workers without income or answers. “Losing Thunder weekend is a gut punch for everyone,” said Gary Fox, President of APRON Inc. “We can’t wait—we need to act now.”
