Local media reports the imminent opening of a restaurant downtown specializing in Jamaican cuisine: Elliment Restaurant and Lounge, to be located at 707 S. Third St.

Elliment is expected to launch later in March.

New Jamaican restaurant to spice up Downtown Louisville, by Michael L. Jones (Louisville Business First)

The Jamaican restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner. (Owner Janice) Clarke said it will serve traditional Jamaican cuisine along with sandwiches and salads. Elliment will have a $7 lunch special during the week, and Clarke said dinner entrees will run about $15.

There will also be seafood specials on the weekend, and the business will also have a full bar. “I will have cocktails, beer and mixed drinks along with traditional Jamaican drinks like sorrel,” Clarke added.

And a reminder: Caribbean cuisine (broadly) and Jamaican cooking (narrowly) represent a fusion of West African, Creole, Amerindian, European, Latin American, Indian/South Asian, Middle Eastern, and Chinese. These traditions were brought from many countries when they moved to the Caribbean.
