It’s a foregone conclusion that I’d be turning to Michael L. Jones at Louisville Business First for the clearest explanation of two new eateries in Russell.

Brunch & Soul and the Hip Hop Sweet Shop, which is also opening in early December, are moving into twin 1,670-square-foot row houses that were renovated by OneWest, an economic development nonprofit focused on West Louisville.

The Hip Hop Sweet Shop is at 516 S. Eighteenth St., Suite A; Jones tells the story here: Hip Hop Sweet Shop to reopen in new location after fire.

(Owner LaFesa) Johnson said the new store will be very similar to the one she lost.

“We didn’t want to change it because it was received so well before,” Johnson explained. “We’re doing what we’re known for most – the milkshakes, our slushies, our baked goods, cheesecake, some banana puddings and cobblers and all that kind of stuff. We make our own water ice and ice cream. We also have iced coffees, boba teas and hot coffees.”

Next door at 516 S. Eighteenth St., Suite B is Brunch & Soul. Jones surveys it here.

(Owner and chef Aaliyah) Richmond said local diners will find a variety of different options at the new restaurant.

“Wednesday through Saturday, we showcase our brunch-lunch menu, and then Sundays, we call it Soul Sunday. So, it’s a whole different menu,” Richmond explained. “There’s no breakfast. We do chicken and dressing, the meatloaf, pot roast, hamburgers and gravy, the whole soul food thing.”
