Louisville, best known for bourbon, the Kentucky Derby and Muhammad Ali, is now home to the fastest-growing Cuban community in the country. The current print edition of F&D (Spring 2024) features my profile of restaurateur and Cuban native Marcos Lorenzo, with photos by Dan Dry.

PROFILE – Havana Rumba Group: For over twenty years Marcos Lorenzo has played a key role in the evolution of Louisville’s Cuban culinary history.

For the past two decades Lorenzo and his staffers have kept busy creating and nurturing a local constellation of Cuban culinary havens:

    • 2007: Mojito Tapas Restaurant (2231 Holiday Manor Center in Lyndon)
    • 2010: Havana Rumba Middletown (12003 Shelbyville Rd.)
    • 2015: Havana Rumba Express and Tapas Bar (2210 Bardstown in the Highlands)
    • 2019: Mojito in Havana (3939 Shelbyville Rd. in St. Matthews), which is where the original Havana Rumba was relocated and rebranded.
