The James Beard Awards honor those who are creating exceptional food, food media content, and better food systems while demonstrating a commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive.
The opening list of chefs under consideration for the 2024 James Beard Awards has been released, and Louisville culinary stalwarts Lawrence Weeks (North of Bourbon, Enso) and Dallas McGarity (The Fat Lamb) are among the semifinalists.
As food and dining reporter Amanda Hancock reveals at the Louisville Courier Journal, finalists will be known on April 3, and winners on June 10 at the annual awards ceremony in Chicago.
Two Louisville chefs named semifinalists for prestigious James Beard Awards: What to know
Weeks … was named a semifinalist in the Emerging Chef category, described as a chef “who displays exceptional talent, character, and leadership ability, and who is likely to make a significant impact in years to come while contributing positively to their broader community,” according to the James Beard Foundation (and) McGarity was named a semifinalist in the Best Chef: Southeast group, which covers chefs in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Previously at Food & Dining Magazine, we’ve profiled McGarity, Weeks and their restaurants; Enso opened just after the story on North of Bourbon was completed, and we’ll make it there in due course.
