An auction process has commenced that might ultimately result in a change of ownership for New Albany’s Honey Creme Donut Shop (514 Vincennes St.)
Or, the enterprise might be reformatted into something different, or even liquidated entirely — and the future depends on a buyer at least matching the minimum bid when the October auction window opens.
It’s like a really sweet reality TV show, and for the moment, only the Shadow knows. The devil forever dwells in the details, so having exhausted all the cliches, let’s have a look at the terms by which you can find yourself engaged in the heritage donut trade.
Honey Creme Donut Shop, at SVN Menish Commercial Real Estate
The Online Published Reserve Auction of the Honey Creme Donuts Business & Real Estate will be open to bidders between Friday, October 11th and 4 pm on Thursday, October 17th. The auction will remain open past 4 pm if there are any bids in the final five minutes, and will remain open until a five minute period of time passes without an additional bids.
A “Published Reserve Auction” means that when we receive the opening bid of $750,000, this business and real estate is guaranteed to sell!
This is an historic property and business in New Albany, Indiana. Voted #1 donut shop by Southern Living Magazine. It has been in the owner’s family since the mid 1940’s and never owned or operated by anyone but family. But now, you have the opportunity to take over this cash flowing donut business and the sale includes the nearly 1 acre of land with a large parking lot and a drive up window.
The donut shop is 1,350 SF with mixers, fryers, display cases and more. It is a turn-key donut business opportunity.
If you live in New Albany, you know Honey Creme Donuts. You have likely eaten donuts there, your kids, your parents, even your grandparents have eaten donuts there. “They are the best donuts in New Albany and beyond,” Said Southern Indiana resident Laurie Gillespie. “I absolutely love them!”
And you should love the opportunity to take ownership of this beloved business. Your customer base is already there and they would be heartbroken if the business closed. But as the owner, you are able to continue this business or open any retail business you chose.
Speaking as a resident New Albanian, I’m surprised and a tad shocked at this turn of events, especially since the Van Horns were guests at our Pubcast in June, sharing the life and times of their business. Listen and learn here:
Meanwhile, writing at Louisville Business First, Piper Hansen has further background.
“Being part of Honey Creme for almost a decade leading up to the business’s centennial anniversary has been bittersweet,” said Andrea Van Horn, one of the shop’s owners. “… We had no idea our aspirations and path would turn so drastically.”
The Van Horns are going from flipping doughnuts to flipping houses, and have begun to transition their life out of the state to spend more time with family.
And this: “Honey Creme will keep slinging dough until the auction closes.”
Unfortunately, September has been a challenging month for New Albany food and drink news.
