My sense, looking at reports about seltzers and hard teas, is that the category is no longer crushing beer under its boot heel. This is not enormously surprising to me—artificially-flavored fizzy booze products always lose their appeal after a while.

Then again, The Local Seltzery had a three-year run at NuLu Marketplace (828 E. Main St.), which isn’t bad at all (around 60% of restaurants close during their first year, and 80% within five years), and if it’s any consolation, those glitzy wine cooler emporiums from the 1980s didn’t last, either.

I Love Tacos seems poised to repurpose the space, according to Amanda Hancock at the Louisville Courier Journal.

The Local Seltzery bar in NuLu has closed. Here’s what we know

A spot that helped bring the seltzer trend to Louisville has recently closed. When The Local Seltzery opened its two-story NuLu Marketplace space in late 2021, it was one of the only dedicated seltzeries in the country, the Courier Journal reported at the time.

Additionally, a location of I Love Tacos is expected to open at the former Local Seltzery location, according to a construction permit filed with the city of Louisville. The permit states plans to “install cooking equipment for a new restaurant,” citing I Love Tacos, and that “prior use” was the seltzer bar.
