Bandido Taqueria Mexicana is adding a fourth area location to the restaurant’s two shops in Louisville (and one in Lexington).
The new location will be at 2901 Goose Creek Road, which alert readers will recall as previously housing Long John Silver’s, which closed almost a year ago. This new Bandido will have drive-thru service, and is expected to open in April 2022.
Bandido Taqueria opens new East End restaurant in former Long John Silver’s location, by Michael L. Jones (Louisville Business First)
Owner Gerardo Ochoa said the Goose Creek restaurant will have the same West Coast-style Mexican cuisine as the other three restaurants (which) offer 10 house-made salsas daily and other made-from-scratch Mexican dishes like carnitas and California-style burritos, tacos, quesadillas, loaded fries, nachos and breakfast burritos that are served all day.
The reporter adds this: “The Bandido brand originated in San Diego, where it has been in business since 1974. Ochoa said a friend convinced him to bring the brand to Louisville.”
As a footnote, and interestingly, search terms like Bandido, taco, San Diego and 1974 yield little in Google terms except for links to articles like this one, written about these contemporary Bandido locations in Louisville and Lexington, or to the umbrella web site for these Kentucky restaurants. Perhaps the original Bandido in San Diego worked under a different name? I’m curious, and so if you know and can direct me to information about the restaurant’s San Diego roots, please shoot me an e-mail: mayorbaylor(at)gmail(dot)com.
