Here is the nonprofit Bridge Kids International’s mission statement (today’s cover photo is from BKI’s web site):
Bridge Kids International uses the power of African heritage culture to create communities that support the well-being of young people. We help young people develop their own solutions to community challenges and build positive relationships between African, African-American, Caribbean and other African Diaspora groups for the purposes of friendship, cooperation, and individual and community empowerment. BKI envisions young people and communities that have the confidence, skills, tools and resources to develop creative solutions and thrive.
BKI has big plans for the Limerick neighborhood, with a target date of late October, and as detailed by the ever insightful Michael L. Jones at Louisville Business First: Our Place Café and a boutique are coming to Ben Washer Park near Old Louisville.
A nonprofit that promotes entrepreneurship among young refugees and immigrants is opening a cafe, ice cream shop and boutique in the Limerick neighborhood, between Old Louisville and the California neighborhoods.
The nonprofit Bridge Kids International is moving its headquarters from 501 W. Kenwood Dr. in South Louisville to a 19th century building in Ben Washer Park, located at 519 W. Kentucky St., between Fifth and Sixth streets in the Limerick neighborhood.
Stacy Bailey-Ndiaye, co-founder and executive director of Bridge Kids International, said in addition to the Bridge Kids offices, the two-story, 3,000 square foot building will house Our Place Cafe, Nice Dream ice cream shop and the Discovery Shop, a boutique offering items from Ghana, Rwanda, Malawi, Senegal, and Kenya, which are all places where Bridge Kids operates.
