Two unrelated issues joined only by alphabetical proximity in my notes nonetheless deserve mention. A local chef has gained a modicum of national attention for her ambitious efforts in her NuLu restaurant, and a new food truck idea is set to start serving soon.
Restaurant Hospitality magazine has named Annie Pettry, chef and owner at Decca Restaurant,812 E. Market St., as one of the “15 to watch in 2015”.
The industry publication calls Pettry one of America’s “budding legends–going places” and commends her for courage, imagination and passion with a dash of luck, to succeed in a competitive field.
The newest Germantown bar, Kaiju, 1004 E. Oak St., has made a splash since its opening a few weeks ago, opened by Toki Masubuchi, owner of Dragon King’s Daughter. The lack of food service at the music venue/dive bar will soon be ameliorated with the imminent arrival of the Osaka Snack Bar, a food truck that will park outside the bar and offer Japanese street food.
