These past few months as information trickled into F&D HQ about the forthcoming Epiphany, which opens today at 1525 Highland Ave., points of emphasis seemed almost divergent. It was hard to see the whole picture. but in this passage from Michael L. Jones’ detailed Epiphany preview at Louisville Business First, general manager and cocktail program director Dane Durand concisely ties it all together.
Epiphany brings farm-to-table bar concept to the Highlands
Epiphany is the brainchild of Ivor Chodkowski, a farmer and co-founder of the nationally acclaimed restaurant, Harvest, and his partner, Abby Chodkowski, a local Realtor, along with their friends, Nicholas Clark, a homebrewer, and Kelley Spillson.
“The the concept was sort of born out of kind of everybody’s passions put together — the farm-to-table and slow foods and sustainability from Ivor,” Durand said. “The design aesthetic and location through Abby. The business side through Kelly and really the beer, whiskey, mezcal, tequila mezcal through Nick. And I like to think I’m the glue that figured out how to make that one concept.”
Durand also explains the reason for Epiphany’s alley access.
“We are addressed to Highland because this building is like dog-leg shaped,” he explained. “I think normally this would be addressed as Baxter Avenue rear, but this building actually isn’t connected to the buildings on Baxter Avenue. This was a sorting facility for this post office when it was a more of a major hub years ago. So it’s like really not even sure had its own address until quite recently.”
Still more: “Epiphany has a stocked produce pantry, merchandise, barrel picks and a nascent art gallery,” with “prepared bar snacks from local vendors.”
Epiphany’s hours are 4:00 p.m. to midnight, daily.
