Load It opened earlier in April on the east side of Louisville, offering menu items (potatoes, fries, nachos) intended to be loaded, which prompts an interesting digression into the English language as shaped by Americans.

Our slang usages for loaded include “having a great deal of money” and also “drunk (or) intoxicated.” If a product is on sale, we might load up on it. In food service, loaded suggests that an item comes with everything, or can be topped with excessive extras and garnishes.

This notion of loading seems to have originated with spuds, and sometimes we say a pizza is loaded. But is it possible to hold the load and eat plain fries with salt, and maybe just a dab of mayo? A little mayo goes a long way, after all.

Inquiring minds (and contrarians) want to know. On the other hand, “loaded for bear” means one is prepared for any eventuality, as with restaurant franchising. And, in conclusion please note that lode is something entirely different: a “vein of ore,” or a “rich source of abundance.”

According to WLKY’s Sam Carter, “serial entrepreneurs Jasmine and Allen Cartwright remember the day the idea for their next great business adventure struck.” And now it is open for business. Let the loading begin.

This new Louisville restaurant is letting customers ‘load’ up an assortment of foods

“I love baked potatoes,” Jasmine Cartwright said. “So I was like, I wish I could get a baked potato that I could just load with whatever I want. I kind of want some macaroni on it. I kind of want some barbecue.”

From that idea, Load It! was born.

The new restaurant concept is now open on Factory Lane, and the idea is quite simple: customers choose from a number of different bases — including, but not limited to, baked potatoes and French fries — and then select from a variety of hot and cold toppings to go on top.

Load It seems destined to be “an instant home run,” as quoted by WLKY’s Carter, and naturally consumers are the umpires who will determine the concept’s launch angle and exit velocity at 12905 Factory Lane, off Old Lagrange Road.

Load It’s hours of operation are 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
