Those who frequent the downtown New Albany branch of Coffee Crossing have been able to watch the steady progress across the street at 145 E. Main St. as Platform Dining & Lounge prepares for its grand opening on Saturday, May 3.

Platform’s self-description: “Elevated soul food restaurant, bar, and lounge. Live music, comedy, karaoke.”

The menus and cover photo have resulted from the customary social media sleuthing, and there isn’t much more about it that I can report for the moment.

Note only that the new eatery faces City Hall to the south, and there is ample free parking between City Hall and the levee.

Downtown New Albany seems to be on an upswing as it pertains to food and dining. Off the top of my head, two new establishments already are open (as of Saturday this week): the aforementioned Platform as well as Cultivated Table & Sip House (133 E. Market St.; most recently Terri Lynn’s Catering By Design).

Several others are on the “open very soon” radar:

New Albany Tavern (114 E. Market; formerly the home of a bar that decamped for Deer Park, although it had one helluva beer list — you’re welcome), where remodeling work is underway. My guess for an ETA would be ASAP, although the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission permit hearing has yet to be posted publicly.

The Fair (141 E. Market St.; formerly Toast on Market), from the people who brought you La Catrina, Señor Iguanas and Sleepy Rooster. The concept is not Mexican-oriented. ETA is “summer.”

Others include a pizzeria that might (or might not) be called Three One Four, coming to 411 E. Spring St., formerly 8th St. Pizza in the Breakwater apartment complex; this information is gleaned from an ATC alcohol license application, which lists a parent company based in the Bay Area, California. ETA is unknown.

Falls City Kitchen at 826 W. Main St.; the parent company shows 901 E. Liberty as its address, and that’s Falls City Brewing, which is to say that it’s one of numerous John Neace & associates incorporations, so the name makes perfect sense and there should be Falls City beer there alongside the inevitable carbonated mass-market pet shampoo. An ETA isn’t known but Fb posts suggest they’re hiring right now.

At the former Hitching Post (115 W. Market St.), also owned by a Neace incorporation, remodeling has proceeded for the past few months, and the rumorama asserts that a quasi-sports bar will eventually open there.

Finally, yet another Neace incorporation still has Pastime Grill & Pub at 424 E. Market, apparently operating as always. Boy, this one would make a great German-themed joint, wouldn’t it? Then daddy could walk to his Helles.

Wait, there’s a recent name change, too.

New Albany name change: Petra Mediterranean, formerly Aladdin’s

Have I forgotten anyone?
