New Wave Burritos has taken to Facebook to announce the eatery’s farewell tour, which is being vaguely defined as “the coming weeks,” which means there’s time to say goodbye. Ownership’s own words are more than ample to set the tone, and here they are.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the imminent closure of New Wave Burritos. It was not a decision taken lightly, or made in haste, but at the end of the day it seems like the only option.

When we started making burritos almost 9 years ago we had no idea what would come of it. What we thought would maybe be a part time side gig ended up transforming into a full blown restaurant after our first two years of service. To say it’s been a wild ride would be a remarkable understatement and if the walls inside 3311 Preston highway could talk they would have plenty to say! But all good things must inevitably come to an end. As the world changes around us so too must we make changes as well.

We never would have made it past our first burrito day without our loyal customers and our incredible staff. After everything is said and done, and after all the burritos are rolled, and the last queso pot scrubbed, you and they were the ones that continued to make everything seem worthwhile. We can never thank our crew or all you burrito eaters out there enough.

As we wind down operations in the upcoming weeks we hope you’ll come out and break bread with us one last time. Heck, stick around and play a few rounds of pinball while you’re at it. Get Lost in the Zone one last time. We hope to go out with the wildest burritos yet seen.

We don’t know what the future holds, and who knows, maybe things will look more promising for a scrappy burrito shop further down the road. But for now, it’s time for the curtain call. Thanks again and we hope to see you one more time in the coming weeks. It’s sad to say good-bye but the thought of seeing some old (or new!) friendly faces will be a welcome pleasure. Eight and a half years is a great run in an uncertain industry and it was an honor and a privilege to do it with you. We love you more than burritos.

Matt Filip, Nate Sturdevant and the entire NWB crew past and present.
