Owner and chef Matt Davis has closed his sandwich shop and deli, Slice, at 1161 S. Second St., citing a number of factors related to the physical constraints of the building, sociological issues involving the Old Louisville neighborhood, and his own needs to work other jobs and not being able to devote the time to make the project successful.
Davis, who has also operated Lil Cheezers food truck (and briefly a Lil Cheezers physical restaurant in the Highlands, where El Taco Luchador now is), opened Slice this past summer. The location was at the corner of Oak and Second Sts., in an older building that had been for many years a small hardware store.

reported that Davis cited a number of problems, including reluctance of his landlord to move quickly to address mechanical issue with the building and difficulties with the homeless and other street people in the neighborhood, among other operating issues.
Though Davis has been a fixture on the local food scene for several years, he now says he is taking a break from the restaurant world.
