One of Louisville’s oldest and most established sushi and Japanese steakhouses, Sapporo, at 1706 Bardstown Rd., is open again after extensive renovations that have expanded the sushi bar, remodeled the kitchen, added a new dining area for private parties and replaced the flooring. All this was done in less that two months, a remarkably short turn-around.
Insider Louisville reported on the details recently. Several around-the-clock work days by the building crew accomplished the job, to make the time and money lost to the restaurant as brief as possible. Kiel Thomson Co., did the demolition and reconstruction work that Pickett/Passafiume/Architects designed.
The new sushi station is a focal point for the restaurant, featuring custom woodwork and tiles. It is the first major upgrade to the popular Highlands restaurant in the 14 years it has been open. Sapporo also has a downtown location, on Theater Square, 649 S. 4th St.
