“I am in Aranmor, sitting over a turf fire, listening to a murmur of Gaelic that is rising from a little public-house under my room.”
― J.M. Synge, The Aran Islands

The Irish Rover  (2319 Frankfort Avenue) has been functioning as Eire’s unofficial Louisville consulate since Old Grand-Dad was in knee pants.

Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but the Rover is 30 years young in 2023. To me, it will always be Louisville’s most authentic Irish pub, and I’ve always deeply appreciated these words on the Rover’s menu:

“A pub is a poor man’s university.”

Second only to “Guinness is good for you,” these words embody a sentiment after my own inclinations. I tried mightily to honor this dictum during the period of my own pub business ownership.

This Sunday, The Irish Rover will celebrate the Big 3-0.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
