Sports and turf writers Jody Demling and Mark Coomes will be the instructors giving advice on how to figure the best odds for your Derby picks at a special dinner Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Bourbons Bistro, 2255 Frankfort Ave.
Coomes has been covering Kentucky sports and the racing scene for 16 years, and Demling has been attending the Derby for 30 years, 5 more than his tenure as a writer with the C-J and News Radio 840-WHAS.
The dinner will start with a spring mix salad with candy-stripe beets and watermelon radish, followed by the entrée of beef filet au poivre, mashed Yukon potatoes and haricot vert. Dessert will be Bourbon bread pudding with tart cherry compote and bourbon caramel sauce.
The dinner will be $55. The handicapping advice will be free. Call (502) 894-8838, or go to www.bourbonsbistro.com.
