On October 1, 2021 Against the Grain Brewery (AtG) opened its Sandwich Emporium at 119 S. 7th St. (street level) in the space where Another Place had only recently ended a long, historic downtown run. It joined AtG’s previously minted The Flamingo Lounge, doing business downstairs at the former location of Jimmy Can’t Dance.

Against the Grain’s downtown Sandwich Emporium opens Friday (October 1)

Fast forwarding to here and now, at the end of July 2022, after almost exactly a year in business, The Flamingo Lounge announced it would be closed for the immediate future but hinted at impending developments.

The impending developments in question have been revealed to comprise a pivot, and henceforth The Flamingo Lounge will be operated as a private events venue only.

AtG’s Sam Cruz commented in an information release.

“(Against the Grain) began hosting many of its company meetings at the Flamingo Lounge, so we wanted to offer the space to others who might want to escape the monotony of run-of-the-mill, sterile office surroundings. We also kept getting asked to host private bourbon tastings, so we knew the Flamingo Lounge would lend itself perfectly to events like that, especially being a stone’s throw from Whiskey Row.”

Here’s the (new) pitch.

Private Speakeasy. Downtown. Underground.

Hosting a bourbon tasting or a catered shindig? this intimate, subterranean speakeasy offers the perfect room for your next private event in Louisville.
