Thursday, Aug 28, 6:30 p.m., Varanese, Frankfort Ave., will celebrate the start of the new Broadway in Louisville theater season with a 4-course dinner inspired by shows on the new season’s schedule. During the meal, diners will sample tastings of Four Roses Bourbons, or cocktails made with Four Roses.
Four Roses Brand Ambassador and Historian Al Young will be the featured guest speaker. Door prizes will be given, including season tickets to the Broadway in Louisville 2014/15 Season.
The reception cocktail will be the Falling Slowly. The first course, inspired by “Once,” will be Bourbon barrel-smoked salmon served over chive pancake with crème fraiche and Kentucky paddlefish caviar.
Between courses diners will sample a Four Roses Flight, which will include tastings of Yellow Label, Small Batch, Single Barrel and 2014 Limited Edition Single Barrel Bourbons.
The second course, “Newsies,” will be house-made spaghetti pasta salad with forest mushrooms, peas, roasted garlic and coddled egg. The main course, with a “The Lion King” theme, will be braised pork and chicken with black lentils and Basmati rice. The cocktail with the entree will be Pilipili Chokaa Bourbon.
The meal will end with a “I Love Lucy” dessert cocktail, a Golden Cadillac, served with the dessert, chocolate-peanut butter cookie bar with torched marshmallow and a wild blueberry-Bourbon sauce.
