Those savvy and in-the-know about the value of the special wine, beer or whisky-focused events that restaurants around town schedule periodically will be sure to hop on to one or both of the offerings coming up later in February. You can chase off those winter whim-whams with a Bourbon dinner at Down One Bourbon Bar or learn about the wines of Chile and Argentina in a three-week series of talks and tastings at the Bristol Downtown.
On Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., Down One Bourbon Bar & Restaurant, 321 West Main St. will offer a 4-course dinner paired with cocktails, including a tasting of Abraham Bowman Vanilla Bourbon, a relative rarity. Bowman Brothers master distiller Brian Prewitt will be at the dinner to discuss his craft. Dinner and drink pairings will be $65. Call 502-566-3259,
Starting Monday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m., the Bristol Bar & Grille Downtown, 614 W. Main St., will host a 3-week session of lectures and tastings covering the major wine regions of Chile and Argentina. Scott Harper, Master Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, as well as the Wine and Beverage Director of the Bristol restaurants, will discuss the wine varieties grown in South America, give lively tour accounts of the major wine regions and the important wineries, and provide plenty of tastings of the best of his picks from the region. Participants must, of course, be at least 21 years of age.
Cost of the three lectures and wine tastings will be $129 per person or $229 per couple. Call (502) 452-8166.
