Red Herring, 1757 Frankfort Ave., is celebrating its first birthday Derby week and is throwing the biggest bash in town. Starting Saturday, April 28 through May 5, this cocktail lounge will be offering  live music and four varieties of mint juleps.

Bar manager Clay Livingston and his staff have created a traditional julep with brandy and rum soaked mint, a non-traditional julep with bacon fat-infused bourbon and a modern twist with Branca Menta. In addition, a Secretariat-inspired cocktail will join the list of new craft cocktails launched just in time for Derby.

From the kitchen, chef Jacob Coronado and team are serving scratch-made bar bites including the LouDog, Coronado’s spin on the legendary Hot Brown featuring a turkey, Mornay and bacon-wrapped hot dog with oven dried tomatoes, as well as the popular chicken skins and chilaquiles. Live bands will play each night including Briar Rose Quartet, Hey Hey Honey, Kiana & the Sun Kings and Led Blimpie.
Red Herring is open 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. for lunch, dinner and late-night snacks, or brunchis offered starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. A new awning on the patio will allow guests to enjoy the festivities inside and out.
