Whither the current “home field” disposition of Señora Arepa? Let’s consider this slightly confusing case of mixed signals, piecing together evidence culled from the web and social media posts.

Earlier this year, it seemed that a second location was imminent for Señora Arepa, which originally launched in NuLu.

Señora Arepa
The arepa, a cornmeal bread stuffed with meat or cheese, is ubiquitous in northern Latin America, and now it anchors a fast casual menu illustrating the depth and richness of Venezuelan cuisine, as influenced by Spanish, West African, and Native American cultures. The popular NuLu eatery has added a second location in St. Matthews.

But it seems that the NuLu arepita kept right on working through July, as the St. Matthews site buildout slowed. Three weeks ago, there came this post at Instragram.

The words “We’re Moving” seemingly indicate definitively that NuLu is to be no more, and Señora Arepa’s immediate future is in St. Matthews. The restaurant’s website shows this.

Which in turn means that we can expect Señora Arepa to resurface in the vicinity of Trinity High School next week (Tuesday 22 August).

So, back to Instagram.

At present there is no word on the NuLu site’s future, which might or might not involve a new eatery concept, so for now, those seeking the Venezuelan arepa experience should direct their navigational devices toward St. Matthews.
