It’s been a spell since we checked in with our friend and colleague Kevin Gibson. Kevin as yet is selflessly engaged in the pursuit of flavor for the benefit of his readers, as here: The Taste Bud: Righteous Felon Jerky Lives Up to its Cool Name.

Righteous Felon. Yes, that’s definitely a cool name for a product. Could be a whiskey. A comic book character. But it also works really well for a product line of beef jerky. But does the jerky itself live up to the name?

Yep.

And while the brand is relentless, promoting products with characters that have goofy names — sometimes with celebrity-themed puns — the company sources its meat from family farms in America. West Chester, Penn.-based Righteous Felon trots out characters like Truffle-O Bill and Victorious B.I.G., but perhaps the three best names (at least so far) are Teriyaki Balboa, Fowl Capone and Maryland Monroe (groan).

Today’s cover photo credit goes to the Righteous Felon Craft Jerky web site. And, this unsolicited reminder: Christmas is over but Kevin Gibson’s most recent book remains available: Oldest Louisville: A Guide to Historic Treasures — go here to purchase.

Kevin Gibson has been a professional writer for more than three decades, having written about restaurants, beer, bourbon, sports, night life, music and plenty more. He has won numerous awards from The Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists and Indiana State Press Association, among others, but can’t remember where he put most of them. In addition, he has written for publications like LEO Weekly, Bourbon+ magazine, Thrillist, Alcohol Professor, Louisville Magazine and many more, including various newspapers. When he’s not busy writing books or stories about Louisville, he’s likely hanging out at a brewery with his dog, Atticus.
