Writing at the Courier Journal, Lennie Omalza offers a current snapshot of Copper & Kings Rooftop Bar & Restaurant in Butchertown at 1121 E Washington Street (3rd floor), which Yelp recently revealed as the Commonwealth’s finest rooftop establishment.
Best view in town? Copper & Kings rooftop restaurant serves earthy food made for brandy pairings
This week, I chatted with Chef Josh Lehman and head distiller Brandon O’Daniel about what makes Copper & Kings the dining and drinking destination it is today.
… Lehman says Copper & Kings is the only distillery in the city with a restaurant, and its dishes are specifically crafted to be paired with brandy.
“It’s an … umami-based cuisine,” he said. “We use deep, earthy flavors to pair with fruit-based spirits.”
The menu can be perused here. Omalza also previews “Remastered: A Queen’s Cut Distiller’s Dinner” (tickets here), coming to the Copper & Kings rooftop at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20.
Everything about the event will have a 2018 tie to it, including the music. Lehman explains the team is creating a playlist of songs that were remastered in 2018, and those tunes will be played throughout the dinner.
“We’re going to start off with an amuse-bouche situation, where you get small appetizers paired with a cocktail,” he said. Guests can expect oysters, pickle-brined fried chicken, Jake’s spicy sausage — from Bardstown, Kentucky — and collard greens. “Again, (it’s) all super deep, earthy flavors.”
