Mother’s Day in America falls on the second Sunday in May. This year it’s the 14th, and Grammarly has the requisite bullet points.
Such celebrations (of motherhood) sometimes involved worship of a mother deity, such as the Goddess Isis in Ancient Egypt, or Cybele and Rhea in Ancient Greece. In other cases, celebrations were only tangentially about mothers: Mothering Sunday in the United Kingdom, for example, was originally dedicated to the “Mother Church,” but was later broadened to honor human mothers, too. Around the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated in a variety of ways and on different dates throughout the year, though many countries observe the holiday on the same day as the United States.
At the Courier Journal, Gege Reed has compiled a list: Happy Mother’s Day! Here are 15+ places to get brunch or dinner with mom in Louisville.
Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the special women in your life. So don’t delay and make sure to book restaurant reservations early if you want to take Mom out for a nice meal. Don’t want to go out to a restaurant? Plenty of places offer special takeout menus so you can bring the meal to mom.
Among the non-chain eateries listed are these:
- 8UP Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen Mother’s Day Brunch
- Barn8 Farm Restaurant & Bourbon Bar
- Black Jockey’s Lounge
- Brasserie Provence
- Bristol Bar & Grill Mother’s Day Brunch
- Brown Hotel’s Mother’s Day Brunch
- The Galt House Hotel’s Mother’s Day Brunch
- Joe Huber’s Family Farm & Restaurant
- Mesh Louisville Mother’s Day Brunch
- The Seafood Lady
- Steak & Bourbon
- TEN20 Craft Brewery
- Varanese Mother’s Day Brunch
To repeat: reservations are a very good idea, and as my college-era roommate’s telephone answering machine message used to say, “you know what to do and when to do it” (if you’re headed out for a Mother’s Day meal this Sunday).
