The theme of September’s Garden Party at Bistro 1860, 1765 Mellwood Ave., is Soy, but Not your Grandfather’s soy. There will be live music in the attractive garden at the corner of Mellwood and Frankfort Ave., on Thursday, Sept. 22, beginning at 7 p.m.
The menu will play a lot of variations with soy as one ingredient: Ama Ebi: orange blossom/ginger water-soy-chile; Frisee salad with pickled pole beans, hon shemiji mushrooms with black garlic/smoked pepper soy vinaigrette; Grilled Premium Tuna in a cherry blossom smoked honey/soy emulsion with black garlic, blackberry and shishito peppers; Bourbon Barrel Foods Smoked Chicken Thigh from Joyce Farms, served with Frondosa Farms mushrooms, butternut squash and Bourbon Barrel Foods soy smoked butter; and for dessert, Soy Creme Brûlée with sticky rice and caramel corn.
