Quad Cafe, located in the always-interesting Quartermaster Center in Jeffersonville, turned a year old this month, and celebrated by adding Southern Indiana’s first J. Gumbo’s.
Mark Swank, owner of Quad Cafe, 103 Quartermaster Ct., has long been a devotee of Cajun cooking, and for about five years has wanted to operate a J. Gumbo’s, the local Cajun food casual chain started by former jockey Billy Fox, Jr. This month, after marking the Cafe’s first year in business, Swank became the first franchisee of the chain in Southern Indiana. The J. Gumbo’s operates in the space that was a meeting room for the Cafe. A glass partition separates the two spaces, but the Gumbo’s menu can be ordered on the Cafe side, and vice versa. “I think the two menus complement each other,” Swank said. Quad Cafe’s menu offers hot sandwiches, flat bread pizzas, chicken wings and appetizers, as well as a full bar. J. Gumbo’s Cajun and Creole-inspired menu includes etoufee, voodoo chicken, red beans and rice, vegetarian bumblebee stew and po’ boys.
