Another farmers market opportunity will appear tomorrow, Wednesday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply, 1007 E. Jefferson St. in NuLu. The market is organized by Louisville Farm to Table, a Metro government group whose mission, according to their website, is “to increase the capacity of the local food system by working to increase production, marketing, distribution and sales of Kentucky edible agriculture products and to meet the demand of Louisville’s market for local foods.”
The popup market will be one way for all this to happen. Food shoppers can talk with farmers about what they have for sale, how they grow it, why it costs what it does. The idea of having the popup market in NuLu is to evoke the good ol’ days when Jefferson St. was the location of an extensive Haymarket, with lots of independent food sellers.
The Greenmarket Popup is free and open to the public. Items for purchase will include seasonal fruits and vegetables, locally raised meats, locally-made cheese, eggs from hens that run around the farm eating what they can find (and they find everything and eat everything they find). There are likely to be food trucks there too, selling lunch items. Wholesale prices will be available for those wishing to purchase larger quantities of farm products.
