In a relatively quick turnaround, considering that the interior space was totally gutted and rebuilt, local mini-chain Yang Kee Noodle will officially open today at 1004 Bardstown Rd., in the building originally built by national mega-chain KFC as KFC Eleven, a short-lived experiment as an “in-market-test kitchen” for testing out the fast-casual dining concept.
For 13 years Yang Kee Noodle had just one store, in the Oxmoor Mall, but in the last year has opened two more outlets, the first at Middletown Commons, 13301 Shelbyville Rd., and now the Highlands location. The Bardstown Rd. store has a large patio for al fresco dining, and instead of the drive-through, has a wok-through window – customers can walk up and order from outside.
The brightly redone interior has tables and booths. The menu will offer the pan-Asian stir-fry selections fans are familiar with, though some new ideas may also be introduced.
On opening day, all sales in the Highlands store from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. will benefit Gilda’s Club, which supports for cancer patients, survivors and their families.
