All the construction happening all around town lately has been phenomenal, so when work began recently at the corner of Grinstead and Bardstown Rd. recently, it took a few passes during my commutes to notice exactly what was happening. Michigan-based Barfly Ventures, which owns four bar and restaurant concepts, is creating a HopCat bar and restaurant in that potentially hot corner.
Currently there are six HopCat locations here and there, each boasting 100 or more beers on tap. The menu will include soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and appetizers, to be open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Construction plans include an upstairs balcony and an outdoor patio on the side of the building.
A HopCat location is also opening at 410 W. Short St. in Lexington this month. The Lexington location will serve beers from Kentucky breweries and make its own in a small brewery on site, only the second HopCat location with its own brewery.
