Continuing a family business tradition, Irma Dee’s soul food restaurant has opened at 1213 S. 28th St. in the Parkland neighborhood.Irma Turner and her family had a restaurant at 16th St. and Walnut in the early 1960s, according to a story in the Courier-Journal. That led to several other restaurants – Turner’s Grill, Family Cafe, Family Dining Room, and Irma’s Cafeteria – run by the family up through the early 2000s.
The new restaurant will be run by Irma Turner’s grandson, Chauncey Turner, and a partner. The menu will feature breakfast items, including a fried bologna breakfast, T-Bone breakfast and wings and waffle. Dinner entrees will include meatloaf, country fried steak, liver and onion, chitterlings, Salisbury steak, chicken, fish, ham, and pigs feet. Takeout family meals of wings, chicken and ribs will be available.
