Thunder has kicked off the derby season; Derby is right around the corner, and the bourbon is flowing. As our city gets an influx of visitors in search of the best bourbons, locals and visitors alike seek out the best parties and bites. Makers Mark has teamed up with Chopped winner Joshua Moore, executive chef at Volare, to bring a unique bourbon and beef tasting event on May 1 at 6 p.m.
The event will take place in a special walled-in Derby tent outside at Volare, 2300 Frankfort Ave, and will have five tasting stations set up. Each station will be paired with a cocktail. Tickets are $100 (entry with no guaranteed seating) to $125 (guaranteed seating) each.
The tasting stations from Chef Moore:
Carpaccio: paper thin Certified Angus Beef tenderloin, red veined sorrel, lemon & garlic citronette, capers, parmesan
paper thin Certified Angus Beef tenderloin, burrata cheese, caramelized shallots, arugula, cracked black pepper, extra virgin olive oil
Sushi: Certified Angus Beef NY strip steak, Alaskan crab, Yellowfin tuna live action sushi rolling
Pasta: housemade braised beef stuffed agnolloti pasta finished with a toasted garlic, hazelnut and Makers Mark bourbon cream reduction….finished with shaved San Miniato winter black truffles
Steamship & Ribs: carved Certified Angus Beef steamship round, served with yeast rolls and housemade horseradish, jezebel and henry baines sauces
smoked beef plate ribs marinated in citrus, ginger and Makers Mark bourbon then served with fresh jalapeno & white barbecue sauce
dolce: bittersweet chocolate beef tallow cake with Makers Mark white chocolate cream
beef fat chocolate chip pecan cookies
Beef fat white chocolate macadamia cookies
