Wednesday, Jan. 28 starting at 5:30 p.m., Science Hill Inn, 525 Washington Street, Shelbyville, will offer a special “German meal with a Southern flair,” to benefit Apron, Inc., an organization that helps food industry workers in times of need. Science Hill chef Ellen Gill McCarty benefitted from Apron’s assistance during her recent bout of cancer treatments, and wanted to give back to the group that helped her.
Assisting McCarty in hosting duties will be Michael Beckmann and Caroline Knop. Nicholas Landers, brewmaster at Gordon Biersch brewery will also be on hand celebrate German beers in the restaurant courtyard, and to pair beers with the dinner.
The meal will begin with appetizers of country ham and sauerkraut balls and homemade bier cheese and pretzels with tastings of Gordon Biersch biers in the courtyard.
The dinner will include pierogis filled with goetta, pork schnitzel with spaetzle and applesauce, and German chocolate cake for dessert.
