Since the Silly Axe Cafe opened in 2019, it has been an utterly unique entity amid the panoply of Louisville area food and dining.

“The Silly Axe chops out gluten and wheat and is the only gluten free dedicated restaurant in Louisville, KY. We are a safe haven for food allergies of all kind. In addition to being gluten free, we are also a nut free and lactose free facility.”

Silly Axe’s page at Facebook elaborates.

Dedicated gluten free restaurant featuring a rotating menu, 7 totally gluten free beers, 12 hard to find craft ciders on tap, chef driven, family friendly, allergen friendly, large grab and go, house sandwiches, weekly meal specials, chicken fingers.

We’re delighted to learn that owner/chef Angela Pike will keep her restaurant dream alive, albeit in a reconfigured form, in a few weeks’ time after moving to Logan Street Market. As of November 12, the current location at 2216 Dundee Road has closed.

Michael L. Jones has more on this story at Louisville Business First.

In addition to the smaller space, Pike said she also plans to downsize her menu when Silly Axe reopens in the Logan Street Market.

“We’re going to be the celiac’s chicken shack,” she explained. “We took basically our most popular items on the menu, our chicken fingers, our fried chicken, and things like that we’ve done since day one. I’m making the menu very focused. And I’m hoping that within the year I can open a bakery at the Logan Street Market, too.”
