To mark the opening of the St. Matthews farmers market at Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Store, 3738 Lexington Rd, Sunday June 1, Louisville chefs Bobby Benjamin of La Coop: Bistro a Vins and Anthony Lamas of Seviche will compete in an Iron Chef-type competition at 1 p.m.
They will be given a main ingredient, which they will then supplement with other fresh, locally sourced ingredients purchased from the farmers market to create a dish on the fly. They will be judged based on taste, originality, healthiness and the ability of people to make the dishes at home. (That last requirement is always included in these contests, and is usually laughable.)
The farmers market celebration runs from noon to 4 p.m. and kicks off the first farmers market Sunday of the year. The market will be open each Sunday through the early fall, noon to 4 p.m.
