Derby evening, May 7, Butchertown Grocery, 1076 E. Washington St., will host its first Kentucky Derby party from 7 p.m. to midnight. A red carpet will welcome guests for cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres in the downstairs dining room, and live music and a variety of action stations in the upstairs bar.
Hors d’oeuvres downstairs will include diver scallops crudo with citrus, Berkshire pork belly with bourbon barrel sorghum, lamb with 12-year-aged balsamic and Pecorino Romano, fried morel mushrooms with black truffle aioli and oysters with bourbon mignonette.
Upstairs in the bar and performance space, the food offerings will include cheese and charcuterie with olives, pickles, mustards, and bread; short ribs with grits and early summer vegetables; popcorn-dusted Alaskan halibut; shaved kale salad with black currants and white anchovy dressing; and bananas Foster with vanilla bean ice cream.
A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s festivities will benefit neighboring non-profits, Home of the Innocents and the soon-to-open Hildegard House.
