Here in Bourbon Country, we’re all familiar with spirits-based cocktails, but how many of us make beer cocktails?
And if we don’t, why shouldn’t we with all the great brewpubs in the area?
The University of Louisville’s Lifelong Learning program aims to change that by offering a noncredit class on the art of making and serving beer cocktails.
See, Mom? Beer and college actually do make a good mix … well, OK, after graduation anyway.
Led by veteran bartender Joy Perrine (bar manager at Equus and Jack’s Lounge), the June 17 Patio Apps and Beer Cocktails class will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and be held at the Shelby Campus.
According to a news release, participants in the one-night $49 class will learn how to mix four beer cocktails including bloody beer punch (a fresh take on the bloody Mary), and Joy’s summer beer punch, one of Perrine’s own recipes blending beer and lemonade with blueberry and lime flavors.
Don’t worry, you won’t be drinking on an empty stomach. Ladyfingers Catering will provide seasonal appetizers to complement the cocktails, all of which will be made with Bluegrass Brewing Co. beer.
